Garden School

Underley Garden School (click here to go to website)  is an independent residential special school, registered for 60. It is co-educational and offers up to 52 week placements for young people aged 9 – 19 years with complex learning needs. All our students benefit from a consistent 24-hour approach.

Underley Garden School is situated near the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale on the Lancashire/Cumbria/North Yorkshire border. The school was purpose built in 1990 as a co-educational residential school and is located in the grounds of Underley Hall which houses a special (SEBD) school. Underley Garden School has two adjacent sites, ‘The Orchard Site’ and ‘The Garden Site’. ‘The Orchard Site’ was developed in 2003/2004. Young people who are placed with us include those on the autistic spectrum, those presenting moderate to severe learning difficulties and those with sensory, social and communication needs. Our students may have additional barriers to learning as a result of their primary learning need including, vulnerability, mental health, challenging behaviour and speech, language and communication difficulties.  A particular feature of this school is the provision of a 24 hour curriculum for young people aged 9 -19 years.

Underley Garden School offers a comprehensive portfolio of education, therapy and care to meet the individual requirements of young people. We aim to enable pupils to achieve their full potential by offering a 24 hour curriculum based on the principles of care, tolerance, praise and high expectations associated with clear learning goals.

Underley Garden School 'Code of Conduct' was developed with the young people in 2004.
