Facilities & Staffing

Underley Hall School is committed to offering the highest possible standards of care for all the young people in the Home. The staff try to ensure that all young people feel safe, comfortable and listened to when they are away from their home environment . To ensure that this happens, all our young people live in small living units with good staffing levels.

Education

During class hours, the young people are educated in a progressive school environment. The Head and Deputy Head Teacher,  lead a team of professionals delivering a broad and balanced curriculum including vocational opportunties.  Teachers and Instructors are complemented by a Behaviour Support Team and Learning Support Assistants who offer advice and guidance and support the young people in their studies.

Care

During evenings and weekends, young people are accommodated in the living areas and supported by the Care Team as described below.
Grosvenor Gardens is a small unit for six boys comprising of one four bedded room and one twin room. Young people are given a high degree of support from the two staff that work on the unit to encourage good social skills and tolerance and to be able to follow structured routines and activities. 
The Pastoral Co-ordinator is available to support the young people in both education and care.

Penny Lane

This a small unit for eight boys with a large bedroom that can accommodate five young people and a smaller bedroom that can accommodate three boys. Two staff work on this unit offering structured routines and activities.

Livery Street

This is a unit for ten boys offering five twin-bedded rooms. Three staff, to encourage appropriate relationships and to support their development, run it Staff encourage and involve young people in their decision-making and responsibility taking through unit meetings and group activities.

Mall 

This is a unit for nine boys the majority or rooms being single to encourage a sense of self and individuality. Three staff to encourage boys to act responsibly increase their ability and to begin their preparation for the Independence Programme, run it.

Strand 

This is a semi-independent unit for ten boys who are accommodated in five twin rooms. Two members of the Care Team staff it and independence is highly encouraged, as are good social interactions and responsibility for their own actions.

Carnaby Street 

This is an independent unit for ten boys offering four spacious bedrooms fully fitted with appropriate furniture for leisure and study. Three staff are on duty at all times to encourage the young people to plan, cook and serve their own meals to the group with some support and guidance from the staff when needed.

The Main School

This has three Waking Watch to patrol the living areas from 10.30 PM - 7.30 AM. Each unit has a sleep-in person who is on the unit throughout the night. The Team Leaders sleep in the Duty Flat on the night of their duty, which is in the main building. The Head or Registered Manager is on call during the evening and night should there be an emergency. They live-in on site in their own house provided by the establishment.

Extra Provision

Should the Authority request a 1-1 provision by a member of the Care Team or in the classroom with a Learning Support Assistant then Underley Hall School will negotiate the payment of the provision of Care at the time of the referral interview.  Staffing levels may alter should the numbers of young people living in the units change. However, the quality of care will always remain consistent and high.
