Care

As a Residential Special School accommodating children for over 295 days per year Underley Hall School is registered as a Children’s Home under the Care Standards Act 2000.

This means that the care provided must conform to the national minimum standards and be subject to inspection by Ofsted. Underley Hall School, since it’s inception in 1976, has steadily developed and improved the quality of its residential facilities and recent refurbishment has resulted in a high standard of provision including some single rooms.

Every Child Matters forms the basis of the Childrens Act 2004. This provides a framework for inspection so that children’s services can be judged on their contribution to the outcomes of:

  • Being healthy
  • Staying safe
  • Enjoying and achieving
  • Making a contribution; and
  • Achieving economic well-being

The standards provide a tool for judging the quality of life experienced by the young people in the school. They also provide an opportunity for self-assessment, a basis for induction and training of staff and a guide for children and parents as to what they should expect from a school registered as a Children’s Home.
